Pole-top luminaires and side-mounted pole-top luminaires

Asymmetrical or asymmetrical flat beam light distribution

These luminaires are part of a group with a performance spectrum that covers all street, square and urban lighting applications. They are available as pole-top luminaires or side-mounted pole-top luminaires. There are two types of light distribution to choose from:

  • asymmetrical light distribution for spatially deep illumination of spaces, squares and car parks, or
  • asymmetrical flat beam light distribution that is particularly suitable for street lighting in compliance with EN 13201.

Ready-to-install pole-top luminaires for single or double arrangements and side-mounted pole-top luminaires for bracket poles.

These luminaires are optionally available with BEGA BugSaver technology for controlling the colour temperature between 3000 and 1800 Kelvin – for additional environmental protection in natural surroundings.

Inner-city road
Here, the safety of all road users has top priority. The road must be easily recognisable and the road users must be visible. This is why the standard DIN EN 13 201 applies for the illumination of inner-city roads in order to guarantee road safety. As an example, let us use a carriageway with two lanes for traffic with a total width of 6 m (illumination class P3) and cycle paths and footpaths with a width of 2 m on both sides. Here, pole-top luminaires on 6 m high poles are used. Their asymmetrical flat beam light distribution covers the entire road width of 10 m. Through the use of precision reflectors, the light is cast very uniformly onto the useful area. The luminaire spacing is 26 m. A reduction of the illumination level is recommended at night.

Roundabout
Roundabouts form typical conflict zones in road lighting in accordance with DIN EN 13 201. The roundabout must be illuminated if the roads leading to it are also illuminated. A degree of illuminance of 20 lx on the carriageway in the roundabout, without pedestrian crossings, represents good illumination. On driveways, the illumination level should be gradually increased from 5 lx to 20 lx based on the permitted speed. The transition should be gentle in order to keep the contrast as low as possible and to allow the human eye to adapt quickly. A slight change in light colour compared to the road lighting also increases the level of attention.

Loading zone
Good light in a loading and manoeuvring zone guarantees safety and smooth working processes. Where there are several adjacent loading openings in a building, glare-free luminaires are therefore placed above and between the gates. Their asymmetrical very wide beam light distribution creates a degree of illuminance of about 50 lx. In addition, location luminaires are installed in the wall about half a metre above the ground in order to facilitate reversing. The entire company grounds are illuminated from a height of 8 m with pole-top luminaires, guaranteeing a basic illumination level of 20 lx.
