Our LED technology

We have control over all the materials used and are therefore not forced to make any compromises. We alone determine all the essential factors such as light output, light colour and the thermal management of a luminaire, and we have a direct influence on quality as a result. Our LED modules are designed to achieve the maximum possible service life. With this in mind, we are committed to using components of the highest quality, made exclusively of age-resistant materials. We consistently refrain from using wearing parts such as light-directing synthetic lenses in our optical systems, for example. Instead we prefer durable materials such as glass, silicone and aluminium.

The ageing of electronic components, especially LEDs, depends on the temperatures to which they are exposed during operation. The higher the component temperature, the shorter the anticipated service life.

Thermal management therefore poses a major challenge during the development process of our luminaires. In addition to the use of high-quality components, we have taken constructive measures to ensure optimum temperature conditions inside the luminaires. The LED service life is significantly extended as a result.

At the same time, electronic protective devices help to prevent the individual components from overheating. We have taken a decidedly conservative approach to temperature control in our luminaires – values remain far below the maximum temperatures for LED modules.

Our LED modules are designed for a service life of at least 50,000 operating hours. Depending on the ambient temperature, however, these values may be significantly higher. The data sheets on our website provide information on the LED service life of each luminaire in relation to the respective colour temperature and ambient temperature.

All BEGA LED luminaires are supplied with tailor-made modules from our own production line..

Replacement and 20-year availability guarantee

What happens when an LED comes to the end of its service life? Who supplies the replacement for this electronic component? Should customers have to seek out new components, or replace luminaires and entire lighting systems themselves?

We have not yet found answers from either external module suppliers or luminaire manufacturers that meet our understanding of corporate responsibility. We have come up with a solution to this problem for our customers. You will find a lamp designation in every one of our LED luminaires, providing exact details on the installed modules. Furthermore, our in-house production will enable us to deliver matching LED modules for many years to come.

Perhaps the technology and design of the components will have changed by the time you need to replace them, but you can rest assured that the light colour and output of the replacements will correspond to the LED modules originally installed.

Our LED luminaires are designed in such a way that the components can easily be replaced on site using standard tools. Suitable precautions have already been taken to protect against electrostatic discharge and accidental polarity reversal of the electronic components. The safe and economical further use of your LED luminaires is thus assured.

We guarantee our customers that LED luminaire replacement modules will be available to purchase from us for up to 20 years after purchase.

Light colour of our LED modules

The light colour of a lamp is described by the colour temperature in Kelvin [K]. Conventional lamps have a colour temperature in the order of below 3300 Kelvin = warm white, 3300 to 5300 Kelvin = neutral white, to more than 5300 Kelvin = daylight white.

Our strict quality requirements ensure that our LED modules show a maximum deviation of three MacAdam ellipses from the quoted colour coordinates.

2200 Kelvin

Warm white light with a colour temperature or light colour of 2200 Kelvin is perceived to have an intense reddish component that comes very close to the colour temperature of a candle (1500 Kelvin). It has a cosy and calming effect on people.

2700 Kelvin

Warm white light with a colour temperature or light colour of 2700 Kelvin has the same comforting effect on people and subtle reddish component as a classic incandescent lamp.

3000 Kelvin

Bright warm white is the designation for a colour temperature or light colour of 3000 Kelvin. It is used both indoors and outdoors and is perceived as brighter than 2700 Kelvin.

4000 Kelvin

Neutral white or universal white light with more than 3300 Kelvin is perceived a bright, inviting and energising. It conveys both the stimulating effect of daylight and the comfort of warm white light.

BEGA AC module

We developed the BEGA AC Module specifically for luminaires with limited installation space. This module is connected directly to a 230 V power supply and has a colour rendering index (CRI) of > 80 and a colour temperature of 3000 K.

Technical parameters for LED luminaires

Our technical terms for LED luminaires are predominantly based on the ZVEI definitions. We sometimes use other terms where they improve understanding.
