PlantBank, Australia

Precision in every detail

To ensure the survival of Australia’s native plant species in all their diversity, the PlantBank stores viable seeds in special laboratories. On the one hand the PlantBank thus provides future generations with the means of recovering species which might become extinct. On the other hand it carries out research to find out how seed viability is affected by environmental influences.

The building complex was meticulously planned by the Australian architectural office BVN Donovan Hill to embody graceful precision. The PlantBank is symbolic for continuity. We are delighted to contribute to the harmonious overall picture with our BEGA bollards - products whose aesthetic and technical qualities can endure for many years.

The doors of the PlantBank are also open to interested visitors. In an area accessible to the general public there is an exhibition which has become a popular destination for school trips. Pupils with an interest in experiments can visit a specially equipped laboratory. The adjoining botanical garden is an open invitation to discover Australia’s native plant species.

High-quality materials were required to implement the plans with clarity and consistency. Elements such as the razor-sharp roof edging and the accurately inserted high-gloss panels of stainless steel lend the building a remarkable precision. Mirror fronts integrate the flourishing flora directly in the architecture. The result is permanent visualisation of the PlantBank’s main objective.
